Poe by Alexis Kimmi Erin

Edgar Allan Poe was born January 19th, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. His father left him when he was young and his mother, Elizabeth, died when he was only three. He was adopted by Frances and John Allan and sent to school in England. He attended the  University of Virginia, but he was forced to drop out after a year because John Allan wouldn't pay for his funds. Frances died from tuberculosis which devastated Poe. Then several years later John Allan died and left nothing in his will for Poe. Edgar Allan Poe married his thirteen year old cousin, Virginia. One day while she was playing the piano she popped a blood vessel. Virginia died 5 years after being diagnosed from tuberculosis. Poe became very depressed and became an alcoholic, he even joined "Sons of Temperance" in an effort to stop. There are various theories surrounding Poe's death, but historians know he was found semiconscious in Baltimore. Four days later he died in a hospital on October 7th, 1849. Throughout Edgar Allan Poe's sad life he wrote a lot of literature, such as the most famous piece "The Raven".
