Trash by: Andy Mulligan

I am Ralph from Trash
My name is Ralph, I go around and look through garbage cans to find things that will support me and my family. I don't have any parents my mom and dad left me and I live with my aunt now. But I got over the fact that I don't have parents. But one of these day i am going to find something special that will help me and my family, and a lot of things will get better. I only do this because, I'm poor and I don't have a lot. When I go garbage picking I usually go out with my best friend Gardo, Gardo is a lot younger than me but he is a smart kid, but he can be really stupid sometimes. Me and Gardo do a lot together, me and Gardo are always going out looking throught garbages, especially around the rich naborhoods. One day we went over by the rich area, to go garbage picking, and just as people said to me, one day you will find the big one and today was that day. I found a bag and in side the bag was a wallet, ID, key, and a little bag. Inside the wallet I found 1500 peso, and things seem to be much better. I go home and wanted to tell my aunt, but when i got there the police were there? They start asking people questions, and they asked if anyone found a bag? Everybody said no, even me and I had it. The police officers said they are offering 10,000 peso to the person who finds it. Everyone went searching, I stayed and tried to figure out what I should do with all this stuff. Then Gardo said, lets just bring it to rats place and he will keep it safe. Rat is a friend that use to get treated porley by everyone, they would call him names and say he looks like a rat, but rat would sleep with the rats and he lives in a sewer now.  Well me and Gardo go down in the sewer at night so nobody can see us. We get down there, we find rat and tell him everything that happend. He said he would take the bag and hide it and not say a word to anyone. But Rat see's the key, and he said he knows what the key is for. Rat would not tell us nothing unless we payed him a 100 peso's. we payed him, he told us that the key belongs to a locker at central station. He said he use to live over there, and he said he would take us to the locker.

  1. This is one of the best books that I have read this year. I really love the action in it, and I cannot wait to see what you think when you get to the part when the police "really" start asking questions. Just a warning that it is pretty brutal. I wonder if you are getting some really vivid images as you are reading this, or if you have many questions. I couldn't believe that the US had gotten so out of control that people actually lived on trash. Makes me want to go out and clean-up the trash!

    1. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it, and yes I have many questions about this book it's really interesting. I can just see the images in my head when the police officers first came and started asking questions. So far the book is really good.
